Guest Mix: Architect

Preview: Rampage – “The Starting Line EP”

Wellingorough based MC Rampage drops his first EP, “The Starting Line”, on Friday, and if you wanted a rough idea of what’s in store there, the main word is: grease. Whether Rampage lives that life, I neither know nor care, but the first thing that grabs me on playing this EP is how authentic he sounds, which automatically elevates this release above the majority of MCs that run a similar line in lyrics. Below is a closer look at “The Starting Line”, and why I believe Rampage is yet another MC that’s well worth watching.

Guest Mix: Triple S

Triple S first came to my attention with their brutal “Hungry” EP last year, and with their follow up EP, “Triple Dat”, already complete, this seemed like the perfect time to get Chemist RNS and MoJoe to jump on the turntables to give everyone a quick reminder of their sound. The results? 44 mins of madness, featuring dubs, VIPs, and some exclusive tracks from “Triple Dat”.

Guestmix: Hustleblood

One of the best things about blogging is randomly checking your emails and finding something sick from somebody that you hadn’t previously heard of, and that’s exactly how I got this mix from Hustleblood. The tracklist for this mix is below. Hustleblood, I think, comes from Mexico, and that’s all I can really tell you…well, that and that this mix goes in differently.

Guest Mix: Toka

Toka first grabbed my attention with his remix of Gundam‘s “Thinking Bout U” last year, and his recent “Ishval” EP further marked him out as one to watch, so when I got the chance to grab a guest mix from the man himself, I was more than a little interested to see how that would sound. And it sounds sick, as you can hear for yourself below.

Free Download: JEB1 “Sand June” ZIP File

Calling this a “leak” would be clickbait, but it is a leak of sorts, albeit one with JEB1’s permission. What we have here is a zip file consisting of 19 tracks that were sent exclusively to DJs and labels at the beginning of June.  Unfortunately for JEB1, PC issues mean none of these tracks will end up seeing an official release, but it does mean that I get to give you the tracks instead!

Interview: Boylan on Edgem, Solo Stuff & More

2015, depending on who you talk to, means different things for Grime. For some, it’s the year that the vocal side of the scene was kicked out of its slumber by hungry young MCs like MicTy and Jammz. Other people will tell you it’s the year that “America discovered Grime”, but, when the time comes to look back, 2015 could be the year of the “super producer crew” (we’ll work out a better name later). Beatgatherers, Silk Road Assassins, Krud Fam… the list of people to watch for is longer every week, but for now, one crew leads the way – Edgem.
With a new EP, “Terror Fortress” out at midnight (13/7/2015), I spoke to Boylan about Edgem, hooking up with JT and Dullah, Drum & Bass, and more.
